The people at ATS in Bad Dürkheim , Germany , know all about high quality and unmistakable designs when it comes to wheels made out of aluminium.
Back in 1969 , the first wheels were manufactured using the sand-casting-process. This was a technical revolution considering the circumstances back then. The company`s founders , Erich Stahlschmidt and Günter Schmid , ceased the spirit of the times. It was the belief in the advancement , that inspired these people.
Industrial mass production couldn`t be stopped. Faster and more efficient production methods prevailed. This was also the case for ATS. The young company experienced a developmental surge within a 3 year period that was due to two very important innovations: the low-
pressure-casting-process and the electrostatic-powder-primer-process.
The road for the mass production of light alloy wheels was now paved. These innovations were the pioneer work of two men , Erich Stahlschmidt
and Eberhard Maiworm. They adapted the low-pressure-casting-process to alloy wheel production. Together with Günter Schmid , they pointed the company`s way into the future and expanded to Bad Dürkheim , Germany in 1972. The hard work paid off. ATS made itself a name with high quality and exclusive products. Even the heads of the automotive industry caught wind of it , and Porsche was the first to put their trust in light alloy wheels from ATS.
